In Koproduktion mit Johann Strauss 2025 Wien platzieren God’s Entertainment (GE) mit OCT.opus 25 für 4 Wochen einen Oktopus als aufblasbare, raumgreifende Skulptur auf den Wiener Karlsplatz und verwandeln ihn in einen vielstimmigen Resonanzraum.   

Drei Herzen, acht Tentakel und ein Nervensystem, das sich über den gesamten Körper verteilt: Der Oktopus ist ein außergewöhnliches Wesen. Durch die Fähigkeit, seine Farbe und Form zu verändern, passt er sich seiner Umgebung an und kommuniziert mit ihr – sensibel, reaktionsschnell und sich die Umwelt ertastend. Die Wissenschaftlerin Donna Haraway greift diese Eigenschaften auf und entwickelt daraus das Konzept eines tentakulären Denkens, das nicht auf Kont- rolle, sondern auf Verbindung basiert, um die Beziehungen zwischen Mensch, Natur und Pflanzenreich neu zu denken – offen, sinnlich und herrschaftsfrei.   

Ganz im Sinne Haraways verstehen GE ihre soziale und künstlerische Intervention als Einladung, um gemeinsam mit dem Publikum und mit einer Vielzahl an Künstler*innen, Architekt*innen und Wissenschaftler*innen neue Tentakel auszubilden als feine, wahrnehmende Fühler, mit denen wir unsere Mitwelt aufmerksam und sensibel ertasten. Dafür verbinden sie künstlerisch die musikalischen Welten von Johann Strauss (Sohn) mit den Vorschlägen Haraways, und zwischen Abstraktion und Figuration, De- und Rekomposition, Dehnung und Kontraktion, zerfließt der Dreiviertel-Klassiker und erscheint in einem völlig neuen Licht – als Weltbegegnung, die verführt und bei der niemand führt.

In a co-production with Johann Strauss 2025 Wien, God‘s Entertainment (GE) and OCT.opus 25 are placing an octopus as an inflatable, expansive sculpture on Vienna‘s Karlsplatz for four weeks, transforming it into a polyphonic resonance chamber.   

Three hearts, eight tentacles and a nervous system that is distributed over its entire body: the octopus is an extraordinary creature. With the ability to change its color and shape, it adapts to its surroundings and communicates with them - sensitive, responsive and able to feel its environment. The scientist Donna Haraway picks up on these characteristics and uses them to develop the concept of tentacular thinking, which is based not on control but on connection, in order to rethink the relationships between humans, nature and the plant kingdom - open, sensual and free of domination.    

In the spirit of Haraway, GE see their social and artistic intervention as an invitation to form new tentacles together with the audience and a variety of artists, architects and scientists as fine, perceptive feelers with which we can attentively and sensitively touch our fellow world. To this end, they artistically combine the musical worlds of Johann Strauss (son) with Haraway‘s proposals, and between abstraction and figuration, decomposition and recomposition, expansion and contraction, the three-quarter classic dissolves and ultimately appears in a completely new light - as a world encounter that seduces and leads no one.
